Linsey Pollak is well known all around Australia as a musician, instrument maker, composer, musical director and community music facilitator. He has worked as a musical instrument maker for over 20 years and has designed a number of new wind instruments as well as specialising in woodwind instruments from Eastern Europe (having studied Macedonian bagpipes in Macedonia). He has specialised in designing and making marimbas and other tuned percussion. His ongoing obsession combines much of this: Making music more accessible to the Community through musical instrument making and playing workshops.
current projects - Making Jam

Making Jam is a solo show by Linsey Pollak. It’s for people of all ages, and as with many of Linsey’s previous shows it’s about making music from the things around us.

Making Jam is the best of Linsey  at his craziest, wildest and most inventive musically…and features music made with many crazy objects.

In Making Jam we get to hear flutes, panpipes and clarinets made from garden hose and  bagpipes made from rubber gloves. We also hear music made from dental floss, carrots (of course), satay sticks and a music stand.  Some newly created instruments will be unveiled such as  “Raven”.

In this show Linsey is himself. There is no Kevin (as in Knocking on Kevin’s Door), no Ivan or Stefan (as in The Art of Food) and the focus is on the music itself and jamming – (Making Jam).

Article from Korean Press:    by Joe Yong-hee

"If you give this man a carrot, you’ll end up with a serenade"

Some say that food is art. Linsey Pollak takes food even further, making it into music.
In his hands, carrots become clarinets. Food isn’t his only material: rubber gloves become bagpipes; watering cans, chairs and brooms become other instruments.
A native of Australia, Mr. Pollak travels around the world performing for people of all ages.
“Making Jam” is, in a way, a “best of” that brings together some of Mr. Pollak’s previous musical inventions. When he takes the stage, all props become potential instruments.

About 30 years ago, Mr. Pollak made a flute. Since then, he’s invented countless instruments, established the Multicultural Arts Center of Western Australia and recorded 19 albums with various groups. But behind the consummate musician is a comedian who creates music with the flourish of a magician.

“I hope to show many people that they can play music as a real and vital part of their lives and not be just passive consumers. I dream of a society that doesn’t have a word for musician, because everyone plays music."
